I was told by a friend this was the hub to write..

Apparently every man wants to know how to make a wood burning stove from a gas bottle...

If this is what you wish to know.. here goes!

My boyfriend and his friend have made loads of these fires of all shapes and sizes. they are very good, but I did refuse to have one in the house. So, if your a house proud woman reading this.. be warned about having one in your home, unless you have house insurance that covers you for 'male inventors'.

It is advised that you need...

An old gas bottle that is preferably empty

A grinder

A welder

An imagination

Water

matches (!)

We have loads of old gas bottles that people have dumped on us over the years, so my boyfriend opened the valves on a few of them and left them a few days to empty. He then filled them full of water to make sure all the gas was out.

*Please note that trying to cut a hole in a gas bottle is very dangerous and can cause serious damage. If you have doubts, then don't bother. Go on ebay and buy one that someone else has already made..

In fact.. forget about making one at all, its probably the worst idea in the world for you to try. My boyfriend has been burnt and scared from messing with these stupid messy things. My ceiling is grey from the amount of mess the damn things make. My paint work is mottled with black ash and when the fire is going, if you haven't taken the paint off the gas bottle you can cause yourself serious damage.

They are great for burning rubbish on, but that's about it.

Your constantly feeding them...

Unless you have a forest on your door, forget it. They burn a LOT.

If your house proud, forget it. Honestly, they are dirty smelly things.

If your thinking one might warm your water.. forget that too. Been there and tried that and it was very unsuccessful.

My boyfriend, in his wisdom, was cutting open a bottle to make a chimney for his fire when it exploded and threw him across the garage. Now he was lucky as he did no damage, and it shook him up, but it was bloody stupid to think that just because a bottle had been left 15 years that it would be empty. Then again my bloke is a bit thick sometimes, and i wasn't impressed by his stupidity.

So.. again.. i recommend you either go on ebay or go to a store and BUY one. Get one with a guarantee that your house insurance covers you for.

Wood burning fires are NO good.. trust me.
