The risks of using chat rooms

I have been a chatter on and off for the past 11 years. I remember the first time i joined msn's chat rooms and became Ice_queen :) I knew the chat inside and out. I met various characters and did rather stupid idiotic things that could have ended up going terribly wrong.

I remember various people i spoke to. A guy from America used to call me from his college room. He was taken with my english accent. Another guy from sweden flew over and spent the night. Another came from Wales. Not once did i do anything wrong or naughty. But i could have ended up being murdered or anything. I didnt know who these people were! I was lucky. Nothing happened. But..be warned. People are in those chat rooms for a reason.

One guy, who was having marriage problems at the time, said he needed a holiday. He came over from America and stayed in a hotel. We had a fun two weeks! And guess what?! We found each other again the other day... after 10 years. I was again lucky i found someone decent and not a convicted rapist!

2 years ago, i joined the web again. I had had a long break from it. My ICQ,msn chat and Yahoo days were well and trully over for a long time. I got back on the net because of ebay. I joined what one friend called... "The evil of the internet"... Facebook.

Get to know and find your old friends! I found em all right... lots! And the mishaps began again.

My bloke wasnt keen on me being on Facebook. Then again my bloke isnt keen on anything at all. I took myself off it for peace and quiet! Plus, the fact i had been drained by false numpties. I signed up again after a few months. this time being a little more discreet, and selective. Im not making the same mistakes again.

you sign up and all the rest of it. Whe you enter details... enter as little as possible. Your age.. sex.. and a false name. NEVER put your real name on the profile. Maybe a few bits about what you like.

Then you get zapped to a room to start off with.

You get a pm (private message)

"Hi."

"HI"

"how are u?"

"Im ok thanks. u?"

"Good! Do you have a cam?"

AH! these guys like this drive me mad! Male and female!!!

unless this is what you are after... AVOID THESE!!

You can usually tell 9/10 about a person after 10 mins of chatting.

You get dirty questions. Pervy questions. questions you wouldnt discuss with anyone never mind some arse hole of the internet.

Most males online are office workers, who are skiving and they should be working.

Most females online are bored house wives.

These are the golden rules.

1. dont hand out any details. name. where u live. anything personal unless u are 1000000000% sure.

2. if you give them your msn addy, you can always block them at a later date. dont open any files they send if your not sure what it is. It could be a virus.

3.If you arrange to meet, meet public or with a friend.

4.dont give em your mobile number!

5. check their age. Dirty old men lie.

6.Tell someone what your doing. Chatting can seem insane to a lot of folk, but if you enjoy it and do it safely then your doing no harm.

You must remember that everyone chats for a reason.

I know why i do!

I dont need no shrink or psychologist to tell me that!

Boredom

Lonliness

pervertedness (a biggy!)

depression

block/delete pervs. dont let them into your life. they prey on weak and vunerable people.There are people in chat rooms etc who will listen to you and give advice. Im sure you have enough common sense to sort the odd balls from the ok ones!

And..sometimes women can be as bad as men. I had a lesbian once harrassing me. Flattering, but still scary.

Remember to be cautious. Be safe, and if you ever have bother email me cos i will sort them out for you. People online use the system to bully and abuse people and its wrong. Their is no internet policing, and its a wide open world for the perverted. Im here!! Message me!
